Udhayanidhi Stalin is an Indian actor and producer known for his work in Tamil cinema. Being the son of M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the grandson of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, Stalin ventured into Indian politics.
Stalin completed his schooling at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai. Later, he pursued his graduation in Visual Communications from Loyola College, Chennai. He initially started his career in the film industry as a film distributor, and in 2008 he founded the production company Red Giant Movies, which has since produced numerous successful Tamil films.
Stalin also entered politics and was appointed Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu. He is also a Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly member representing the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency.
As a distributor and producer, Stalin worked on films like Kuruvi (2008), Aadhavan (2009), Manmadhan Ambu (2010) and 7aum Arivu (2011).
In 2013, he made his acting debut with the film Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012), also produced by his production company. The film was a commercial success, and Stalin won several awards for his role. He won the SIIMA Award for Best Male Debutant for his performance in Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012). He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South and Norway Tamil Film Festival Award for Best Newcomer Actor.
After his success, Stalin continued acting and has since starred in several films, including Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal (2014), Nannbenda (2015), Gethu (2016) and Manithan (2016). In 2017, he worked on films like Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen (2017), Podhuvaga En Manasu Thangam (2017), and Ippadai Vellum (2017).
He also acted in Priyadarshan's drama Nimir (2018) and Seenu Ramasamy's romantic drama Kanne Kalaimane (2019). Stalin demonstrated his versatility as an actor by appearing in the psychological thriller Psycho (2020) in 2020 and the political drama Nenjuku Needhi (2022) in 2022.
Stalin is married to Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, currently the head of the lifestyle magazine Inbox 1305. She is also the director of the films Vanakkam Chennai (2013) and Kaali (2018). The couple has two children, a son named Inbanithi and a daughter named Tanmaya.
